Chinese astrology marks this year as the Year of the Pig, a symbol of fertility, abundance, and good fortune. Tradition says children born under this sign grow up happy and honest, two traits anyone would consider lucky.

The Pig represents cheerfulness, patience, and understanding. People born in this year enjoy life fully, treasuring family and friendships above all. They give honesty and thoughtfulness freely, expecting the same in return. Because they care deeply, others sometimes see them as naïve or gullible. In truth, their compassion drives them to great lengths for the people they love.

I, on the other hand, was born in the Year of the Dragon, a Fire Dragon to be exact. That raises a natural question: how does a Dragon fare in the Year of the Pig?

According to Yahoo! Astrology, 2007 brings both challenges and rewards for Dragons. At face value, that sounds like a year worth leaning into. But my faith, not astrology, has always been my anchor. As a Catholic, I ground my outlook in prayer and purpose. Still, I see wisdom in the reminder. This is a year to embrace challenges, pursue meaningful “life projects,” and stay fully committed to the plans I have made for my family and myself.

Astrology aside, I believe in this truth. When you stand with strong partners, good friends, and God’s guidance, you carry everything you need to shape your destiny.

Here’s to finishing the Year of the Pig not only strong, but with a bang.
