Asian Internet Slowdown

For the past three weeks, browsing the internet in the Asia Pacific region has been nothing short of a headache. Many countries are still reeling from the aftermath of the recent quake that damaged undersea communication cables off Taiwan’s coast. The slowdown might be a minor inconvenience for the casual surfer, but for internet junkies and IT admins, it feels like a bad dream you can’t wake up from.

Strangely enough, the impact hasn’t been uniform. Some of the fastest-loading sites, including Google, have seen a significant decline in speed and reliability. Meanwhile, bandwidth-heavy destinations like streaming platforms and FTP download sites are cruising along just fine.

So why am I extra annoyed? Simple. Blogger is one of the sites hit hardest. And that, my friends, is a bummer.
